UTAINA MAI

Here are the lryics for both the waiata and haka part of Utaina Mai. In this waiata, the girls sing through the whole song twice, while the boys sing the first time then come in with the haka the second time. The words in bold lettering in the haka are for the kaea (caller) to say and the rest of the boys follow.

Utaina Mai

Utaina mai ngā waka
Ngā waka o te motu
Tōia mai rā ki uta
Ki te takoranga.
A hiki 'nuku, hiki e
Hiki rangi, runga e
Tēnā, tēnā rā
koutou katoa.

(Haka)
U ta-i!
'Ta-hi!
U ta-i!
'Ta-hi!

Utaina mai ngā iwi
0 te motu
Ki runga I te kura.

A hiki 'nuku e!
A hiki rangi e!
A hiki rangi e!
A hiki 'nuku e!
A! ha! ha!

Ka hikitia i tā nga iwi
Ka hapainga tāna waka
Aue! Aue! Aue! Ha!
Aue! Aue! Aue! Ha! Hei!

This clip shows just the haka.

This clip shows both the haka and waiata, however we will put them together in a slightly different way, starting the haka later than on the clip.

WAIRUA TAPU

Here are the lyrics for the waiata (song), Wairua Tapu. This beautiful himene (hymn) is asking the Holy Spirit to be with us and guide us in all we do.

Wairua Tapu

Wairua tapu tau mai ra
Wairua tapu mai runga
Uhia mai nga taonga pai
Homai tou aroha

Wahia kia tika
Akona mai ra
kia u ki te pai
koroia, kia ma tonu ra
Mohou te tino kororia
_
Wairua tapu tau mai ra
Wairua tapu tau mai ra
Wairu tapu tau mai ra

Here is a video that shows the tune and the actions that we will be learning. This song is usually accompanied by sign language actions as you see in the video.

Welcome to ACS Kapa Haka

Kia ora and welcome to the ACS Kapa Haka page. This page is for our wonderful Kapa Haka members, from Years 2- Year 10!

On this page I will keep you updated with lyrics and video clips of waiata we are currently learning. I'll also be posting new kupu (vocabulary) in Te Reo Maori for you to learn and practice. I expect Kapa Haka students to practice their waiata, haka and actions at home at least twice a week, in order to be prepared for our Thursday morning sessions together. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment, or email Mrs Nareki on joelle.nareki@aidanfield.school.nz and I'll get back to you.

I'm looking forward to a good 2014 together!

Mrs Nareki
